Not quite the scoreline anticipated. Unfortunately, player numbers
let us down on the day due to players being away or unavailable.
Starting with only 13 players QUINTIN offered us to concede the match
even before we had touched the ball. They had 18 players looking for
a game. But defiantly 13 of us were there to play for the club and we
came for a league game and decided we couldn't give in that easily.
From the kick off the first tackles were hard and fast and the first
points went to Quintin. Driving over our line from a lineout. Danny
scored the first try for Osterley breaking a tackle almost outside the
halfway line and breaking a 2nd tackle from their fullback to make a
sliding try.
Quintin scored their second. THEN Just before halftime Gerry was up
and pressurised their backs who dropped the ball, with the advantage
a kick of the ball onto the posts deflected nicely for Gerry to dive
on and score.
AT HALF TIME THE SCORES WERE LEVEL 12-12.
13 Doing the work of 15 players for
the first half against a strong side soon took its toll. QUINTIN soon
realised they'd been playing our game and were taken back by our audacity
of playing them with only 13 players. Realising they hadn't been using
the overlaps available they soon span the ball wide and found three
players against one on our wings. This made it all too easy for them
to run in several tries.
But still having lost five consecutive tries, a great forwards drive
under their posts by Osterley created a perfect try for Andy. One I'm
sure he'll remember but made from the determination by the forwards
and a final push from Gary who ran 20 metres to hit the back of the
pack for that extra shove.
The Final score was not reflectant on the game and effort put in by
the Osterley players. The QUINTIN Captain thought at half time they
were going to lose to 13 Osterley players. He commented on the game
afterwards, quote "That was a lot harder than we thought it
was going to be. Well done and see you you with a full side later in
the season."
