This week was a hard hitting loss that shouldn't
have been a loss at all. The game began with Osterley initially being
up for it wanting to dominate the game. But during the first half the
Hayes heavier pack dominated in the scrums. The Osterley side not firing
up to the challenge. Hayes playing their kind of game, wanting to play
all the ball in the forwards. Some great defending from Osterley side
and credit to us for not rising to the punching and bitchiness the Hayes
side always give out. The first try came from Hayes close to our posts
in the first half providing a simple conversion. Due to the ref being
a little confused as to the rules of rugby he almost awarded Hayes a
penalty in front of the posts when it should have been a five metre
scrum. His confusion was evident throughout the game. In the second
half we actually passed the ball all the way out to the wing where Gary
Bennett made a great running line to score under the posts with a well
deserved try that we converted. Hayes heavy pack kept the ball in the
forwards looking all the time to drive over the line. Osterley defended
continually and denied them a try. The ref then missed an obvious forward
pass on their wing that they scored off. This put them ahead a try.
Osterley just never got the ball moving and seemed to be firing on one
cylinder all afternoon. Osterley man of the match was Paul T (Flanker)
who took numerous crash ball and spoilt much of their play.
(Being in the Herts / Middlesex league and having
sent out a map of directions to you all. We won't mention about Geoff
B. making his way to HAYES in KENT ?? He's clearly been watching too
much of the series 'LOST'.)
