In case you're still confused this is the gist of
what went down on Saturday....
By kick off 6 players had dropped out from Tommo's
original 18. So we thought we had 12 players so we had a team meeting
and decided that we would have a "crack" rather than conceding
the game straight away. Luckily for us Tommo can't count and when Geoff
turned up just before kick-off we actually had 13...... we were so happy:)
only the 2 man overlap to deal with then!
However as Tommo had yet again spent his Saturday
morning ringing everyone he knew (apparently he even trolled the police
cells offering a pardon to anyone who played!) he forgot one critical
thing... he didn't tape his ears. Anyone who has played with Osterley
will know that Tommo always tapes his ears......unfortunately not just
for the man himself, or the team that day, but for the future of our
club, on Saturday he didn't.
So 13 brave souls took to the field and played out
of their skins. Every player gave 150% and at times you would have thought
that we had the overlap not Northolt. We opened the score sheet with
a try and from then on every time they scored we scored again. Geoff
yet again had a great game scoring two tries, long kicks out of trouble
and some nifty passing. Nick also had a great debut in the centres and
we look forward to his return in the Easter, But my positive memory
of the day had to be Welsh prop Rich tearing down the right wing to
receive the final pass of a great attack, in full flight and a face
full of determination no-one was going to stop him......and they didn't
! A very memorable try which highlighted the effort the forwards put
in that day.
In the second half Northolt had the downward slope
and used their "Large" forwards to good effect. Two drives
near our line resulted in tries and they took the lead. Unfortunately
this time we were unable to regain it but came close on several occasions.
Then, with 10mins left to play it happened....Hannibal struck! and Tommo's
ear was ripped, the doctors told Tommo that the last time they'd seen
this type of injury was after a hammer attack! So now we were down to
12, bad news for Northolt as we were now fuming and the best revenge
came with the last try of the game to Osterley.
So there the story ends Osterley 28 - Northolt 33
Tommo 12 (stitches that is!)
