Fixtures and Results

Saturday 29th October 2005 - 4th LEAGUE GAME
THAMESIANS (26) v OSTERLEY (5)

Not a great result from the previous weeks game against Northolt. 15 players for this match but No subs available.

We had a good side out but lacked some fitness around the park failing to get to the breakdowns. But this wasn't helped with a number of players still carrying injuries. The pack was made up of Mick, Chris, Banger, Luke, John, Tommo, Dan S and Daffydd. The Backs were Chris, Geoff, Guy, Dan P., Ian, Ant and Gary B.

First time appearances in the side were from Dan Sen who last played for us some Six years ago (Great to see him back) and secondly Ian Winton who had very little chance to get into the game out on the wing.

Scrum half Chris was put under pressure from the Thamesians Captain (scrum half) in the first half but had a much better second half with our flankers stopping him coming round.

We spent so much time in the oppositions half but just couldn't get that extra pass or breakthrough. Luke P. (2nd row) drove over the line for a great try for it to be disallowed as a double movement. The ref refusing to change his decision. The problem being he ran around the wrong side of the scrum and couldn't see the try scored. This try was confirmed after the game by the opposition. The only valid Osterley try coming from a great scrum, some second phase ball and spinning the ball out along the backs to Ant who dived over the line for his first try for Osterley. Geoff again had some great kicking throughout the game and both Dan P. and Gary kept on having the ball kicked over the top to them by Thamesians backs.

We didn't deserve the final scoreline and this was not indicative of the game. As one of their tries came from a missed tackle on their No. 6. Many of the decisions going against us and the ref not picking up on the handling on the ground and in the rucks. We are now clear of the level of opposition this season having seen four of the sides. We NOW know what we need to do to win these games.

FINALLY IMPORTANTLY - As the side doesn't train together it's down to YOU to keep your fitness up. Some injuries are being sustained from not being there early enough to warm up and run through our moves. We need to be at the clubs getting ready at least an hour before K.O. (at the latest) for all these games. We can't practice Lineouts, back row moves etc. if your not ALL there.
